About Woori Juntos
Woori Juntos is a dynamic grassroots-based organization founded by local community members to project a progressive voice and promote the full participation of Asian Americans, im/migrants, and all Texans within the social justice movement. Its mission is to organize Asian Americans and all Texans to achieve social, economic, and racial justice. Woori Juntos is an affiliate of a national progressive Asian American network, NAKASEC.
Major Responsibilities
We are seeking skilled and versatile contract translators and interpreters to join our team. As a contract translator, you will play a crucial role in facilitating effective communication between individuals or organizations by converting spoken or written content from one language to another. You will work on a project basis, collaborating with our team to deliver accurate and culturally sensitive translations and/or interpretations. This is a contract position, and compensation will be based on project scope and complexity.
Translator is a person who translates written text from one language to another. Translators work with written documents, books, articles, or other materials and convert them into a different language. Unlike interpreters, translators have more time for research, editing, and refining the translated text. They focus on accurately conveying the meaning and context of the original text while ensuring proper grammar, style, and cultural appropriateness. Fluently interpreting from English to another language that is listed: Korean, Arabic, Khmer, Hindi, Persian, Urdu, Indonesian, Thai, Laotian, Gujarati, Japanese, Tamil
Primary Responsibilities for Translators include:
Prepare translations for documents, videos, and online presentations to convey original meaning and tone when requested
Edit and proofread translated texts for grammar, spelling, punctuation accuracy, and maintaining original format (e.g. font, hyperlink, structure, etc.) when requested
Follow up with internal staff to ensure translation meets the needs the organization
Experience & Skills Needed:
Vision and beliefs of community empowerment and deep commitment to change the world with marginalized communities and ready to resist racism, patriarchy, homophobia, classism, xenophobia, nativism, and ableism
Ability to conduct a culturally specific approach in communications
Proofreading and time-management skills with the ability to identify grammar, spelling, and punctuation errors
Knowledge of content editing tools, translation tools, and dictionaries to check quality of translation
For translators, they MUST be located in Texas
Some years of experience and knowledge about the Asian/Asian Americans communities related to im/migrant rights, health equity, public and community safety, climate & environmental justice, educational justice, and labor rights
Reading material and researching community-specific terminology
